What’s in a Team- Stephen Murnane
At Tyrell, it is one of our most dearly held beliefs that people buy from people – namely people that they like, respect and trust. So, that is why we are always proud to sing the praises of our exceptional team at every opportunity, because we know that it’s our multi-disciplined experts, with their wealth of experience, that ensure the success of our business and the satisfaction of our clients.
Recently, we’ve been getting to know our expert team a little bit better to prove that we really are the best in the business. This week we’re learning more about Tyrell Account Manager, Stephen Murnane and how his passion for the industry has evolved over the years and still continues to drive him.
Name: Stephen Murnane
Job title: Account Manager
Miles on the industry clock: 24
Stephen didn’t always see his life ending up in the demanding world of media technology sales. In fact, having been brought up in the world of farming Stephen always assumed that it was milking cows, rather than obsessing over the innovations of broadcast animation, that would become his natural destiny in the world of work.
Well, as it turned out he was wrong and after spending his formative years washing turkeys, picking wild oats (not a euphuism, we’ve been assured) and of course tending to all those cows, Stephen emigrated to London in the 80’s and took his first tentative steps in to the world of sales at Omron Electronics in London. Skip to a decade later and Stephen found himself back in Ireland at Dell, selling cutting-edge technology into major accounts.
In Stephen’s own words, it was more by luck than judgement that he left Dell and started work at Eurotek as a sales engineer. This was at the point when the move from analogue to digital was really starting to take off. As was Stephen’s career in the media technology industry. After spending six years immersed in all things digital at Eurotek, Stephen then moved to Screen Scene where he headed up the DVD and digital department and worked on some pretty out-there projects for clients as diverse as U2 and Riverdance. So much so that Stephen assures us that he could still probably dance most of the entire Riverdance show and navigate to the sync points within the performance!
Moving on from Screen Scene, Stephen then transitioned to a boutique creative facility called Piranha Bar where he got involved in the pipelines and motion capture elements of the production process. Whilst there, Stephen had an appetite to push the boundaries to see what could really be achieved with the technology on offer and he continued to develop his knowledge on Vfx and animation pipelines as well as looking after all things IT.
Never losing his love for sales and the thrill of the chase, he decided in 2015 to step back into the sales arena. Initially re-joining Eurotek and then finally moving to Tyrell where the team have been lucky to have him for the past two years.
Joining Tyrell was an interesting move for Stephen as he had spent most of his sales life selling against Bryan Malone and the formidable Tyrell team and as it turned out they make quite the dynamic duo. Complementing each other with their different sales techniques. Whilst there is still competition between the two, it is now very much on friendly terms.
Stephen is a big believer in doing what you love and it’s clear to see that he has been one of the lucky ones who genuinely loves this industry and the people who work within it.
