Object Matrix

Object Matrix are one of the leading manufactures who have taken the Cloud Hardware generation and made it a reality. MatrixStore As A Service was released to bridge the expectation vs reality gap of cloud based storage.
Getting the data in the Cloud is easy, you just need a hard drive and a rocket – see what I did there? But often customers found that regaining access to their Cloud based storage was slow and extremely expensive.
The Object Matrix service can be used as a true Cloud based solution or a hybrid offering both onsite and offsite storage of your valuable data.
Telestream

Telestream
The most significant development for me from Telestream came in the form of their Livespeed Live Capture-Aspera FASPex-Vantage Integration. A simple and elegant solution with the following steps:
- Take your live SDI or IP feed into the Lightspeed Capture hardware.
- Store to local Storage whilst also using Aspera Faspex to move the captured content over secure, accelerated UDP transport.
- At the same time as Faspex delivering to your onsite Faspex server you can also deliver the growing files to your Cloud Storage.
Emam

I have had a long relationship with the guys over at Empress so I was pleased when Tyrell was announced as a reseller.
Empress started out as supplier of media such as BetaSP Digibeta and LTO tape. During the transition to tapeless workflows it was clear that they needed to penetrate different markets, they had the vision to see that people were creating archives from their tapes but these were not being managed and clients could not find the rushes that they had spent so much money on creating.
Adobe Gathers Momentum

Adobe have picked up some momentum ever since the fall out with Final Cut Pro 7, and as cheesy as it sounds, they haven’t looked back since.
It’s the multi-skilled creative’s product of choice, offering graphics/animation creation, video editing, encoding, audio mixing etc.
Effortlessly compatible, and offering customers a complete production package at a great month subscription price. We aren’t the only ones impressed with Adobe Creative Cloud, a lot of our customers have already made the plunge into Adobe waters and manufactures are now integrating their systems into the seamless workflow using the Premier Pro Panels feature.
Storage DNA

Here at Tyrell, we are big fans of StorageDNA, if you have ever had that chance to meet the CEO, Tridib Chakravarty or TC for short, you will understand the passion that drives this company forward with exciting features.
Storage DNA has a firm eye on where our industry is going and the technology we will be using to drive content creation in the right direction. This passion has allowed StorageDNA to turn a very unsexy product, LTO, and give it the ‘x-factor!’
dnaLTFS
Most customers would consider LTO as a back-up/archive medium offering cheap long term storage of their old unneeded content.
Facilis

The low budget shared storage market is a cramped one. Over the last few years, feature rich and good looking solutions from companies like EditShare and ProMAX have delivered workflows that required a large budget.
One company that had started to feel a little ‘agricultural’ in this otherwise slick environment was Facilis.
Now don’t get me wrong, I like Facilis. Their simple mantra of fast and cheap has a very valid place in the shared storage world but the clunky manager interface and lack of any MAM style viewer was becoming a bit of a worry.
Promise Storage, LaCie, G-Tech

The 2017 IBC held host to the usual bevy of Storage Solutions, and Promise Technology announced the launch of its second-generation personal cloud device, the Apollo Cloud 2 Duo. Like the company’s original Apollo product, the Cloud 2 Duo is designed to provide a network-attached storage solution to families and small businesses who want the cloud’s ease of use with the security of local storage.
The Cloud 2 Duo offers double the storage capacity of the original Apollo models at 8TB, but continues to feature a sleek, compact white housing.
SuperMicro

When visiting most Vfx and Animation facilities you will see SuperMicro everywhere stuffed in racks. Competatively priced, well built, high density servers that have cornered the render farm market in many facilities.
Whether it be the fat twin 4U with 4 or 8 nodes configured with Dual processors, Ram and high speed internet for CPU rendering with Arnold (https://www.solidangle.com/) or Vray (https://www.chaosgroup.com/), or for Houdini simulation (https://www.sidefx.com/).
ProMAX – Platform CORE

Californian based ProMAX Systems builds high-powered shared storage devices and workflow servers. With over 20 years of experience and a presence in more than 25 countries, ProMAX has established itself as a major player in the shared storage market. Their main niche is offering vast storage sizes and a relatively affordable price compared to the competition. I do like the simple user experience offered by the Platform UI.
At IBC this year ProMAX has released a new line-up of high performance Shared Storage Servers called Platform CORE, born out of the same technology powering ProMAX Platform Workflow Servers.
EditShare New Product Development

EditShare have had a busy few months in terms of product development and this has led to an exciting IBC 2017 for the company.
EditShare are one of the leading manufacturers of shared storage based workflow directors within the post-production, broadcast, healthcare and educational industries. Their systems are more than just storage, they offer built in extras such as media asset management, remote user access, ingest tools, LTO backup and a fast turnaround non-linear editing application. It’s a powerful system, and you can read me about EditShare as a company on their website, for this blog though, we’re just interested in the new exciting bits.
